Harvard Limps Into Break After Shutout Losses to Clarkson, St. Lawrence

Struggling to score is unfamiliar territory for the Harvard men’s ice hockey team. After ranking second or better in the ECAC in goals-per-game in each of the last two seasons, the Crimson ranks last of the 12 teams so far this season, checking in with a 1.78 goals-per-game average. Harvard has been held to one goal or fewer in five of its nine games so far this season.

Harvard Falls to No. 1 Boston College, No. 10 UMass Over Thanksgiving Break

If ice hockey was a sport of two halves rather than three periods, Harvard men’s hockey would be coming out of the weekend with a win and tie. However, the team’s third period performance in both Sunday’s matinee against No. 1 Boston College and Friday evening’s game against No. 10 University of Massachusetts proved to be decisive, as Harvard fell to both opponents.

No. 19 Men’s Hockey Edges Dartmouth in 18-Round Shootout Win

No. 19 Harvard men’s hockey hit the road Friday and headed to Hanover, N.H. to take on the Dartmouth Big Green in its long-awaited season opener. Though many other collegiate teams started their seasons at the beginning of October, the Ivy League schools traditionally start later. Other members of Harvard’s own conference, the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC), including last year’s NCAA champion Quinnipiac, already have a significant number of games under their belt. In its first contest, the Crimson edged out the Big Green after 18 rounds of shootouts.

With the arrival of top recruits in forwards Matt Coronato, Sean Farrell, Alex Laferriere, and Zakary Karpa and defensemen Ian Moore and Jack Bar, the squad was brimming with potential and inexperience.

Men's Ice Hockey Coach Ted Donato ’91 Named to Boston Bruins "Historic 100" List

“I was at a friend's house at a swimming pool and I got a phone call and it was, ‘Hey you get drafted by the Bruins,’” Harvard men’s hockey coach Ted Donato ’91 recalled of the moment he was selected by the NHL’s Boston Bruins in the 1987 draft.

No. 7 Harvard’s Season Ends in 8-1 Blowout Loss to No. 8 Ohio State

After a narrow loss to Minnesota State in the first round of the 2022 NCAA Tournament, the No. 7 Harvard men’s ice hockey team seemed to be on the upswing, with the majority of the NCAA’s then-youngest team returning for another shot at a national title run. After blazing through the regular season with a stellar 24-8-2 record, the Crimson entered the 2023 NCAA Tournament with legitimate hopes of reaching the Frozen Four.
