Senior Section 2013
Statistical Breakdown of the Class of 2013
An interactive examination of the habits, preferences, and plans of the graduating senior class.
Marriage: František Bútora ’13 and Nikoleta “Nika” Bútorová
František secretly flew back to Slovakia for spring break of sophomore year, arriving on a Sunday. He surprised her at the church in the small valley that had special significance for them.
Engagement: Anthony J. Staccone ’13 and Anika R. Petach ’13
We once decided to bike down the entirety of Loch Ness in one day. It turned into a torrential downpour, with an inch of water covering the road, but we still made it!
Engagement: Thomas C. Wilhoit ’13 and Jordan A. Reddout ’10
I think it was when we first traveled alone together—we went to St. Augustine, Fla., for a weekend and explored the town. It’s nice to have someone who wants to visit 17th-century forts with you.
Marriage: Anna R. McKenney ’13 and Shawn W. McKenney
"Long-distance relationships are tough, but they can be worth it. They can work out. Initially, we weren’t going to date because I was going to college, but it ended up working out."
Engagement: Carolina R. Beltran ’13 and Christopher H. Weber ’13
A good friendship makes for a great relationship. That could be a fortune cookie.
Marriage: Ashley K. Reynolds ’13 and Tim D. Reynolds
On their first date, they talked outside of Crema for four hours. “We just got each other. We could totally be ourselves.”
Engagement: William N. W. Forster ’13 and Racheal S. Epstein
There are going to be times when you hurt each other, and there are going to be times when you’re crazy. You just have to work on it. People don’t really get that anymore.
Marriage: Elizabeth P. Bronshteyn ’13 and Berel Bronshteyn
Just after Elizabeth returned from a semester abroad in the Czech Republic last fall, the couple went to a Build-a-Bear Workshop in Manhattan and made a teddy bear. They named it “Bliz”—a combination of their two names.
Engagement: Jocelyn P. Blier ’13 and Daniel M. Schreff ’12
Finally, she ended up in Yenching Auditorium, where they had met. He turned on all the lights and proposed.
Engagement: Abigail E. Hook ’13 and Andrew M. Garbarino ’13
First date, at Russell House on March 8, 2011. Andrew’s fellow Math CA was the waiter and brought them free carrot cake.
Marriage: Lauren E. Faraino ’13 and Kleber P. DeSouza
Kleber was bartending at Grafton Street, and I was a regular there, I guess, and we just met then. So romantic. Should we make up a really romantic story?
Engagement: Esther S. Wu ’13 and Matthew G. Tung ’12
We spend a lot of time together. We’re usually deep in discussion or lost in thought. We also almost always know where the other person is and what they’re up to.
Engagement: Joshua G. Wilson ’13 and Sorrel L. Nielsen ’14
A couple days ago, I invited Sorrel to take a walk with me down to the Radcliffe Sunken Garden. I said I needed to take a phone call. Then I took the ring out of my pocket. I came back and held her hand.
Engagement: Allie K. Wunderlich ’13 and David L. Gray
After knowing me for three days, he told me I would make a great wife and mother someday. It wasn’t creepy; it was...a really nice compliment.
Magic, Magic, Magic
I think we all stopped at one point or another and looked up at the tower of Mem Church, thanking our lucky stars that we go to school at such a crazy, historic, beautiful, vaguely ridiculous place filled with incredible people.
Where We Stand: The Class of 2013 Senior Survey
The Crimson conducted a survey of the Class of 2013 from May 11 to May 21. Nearly half of the senior class—780 respondents—answered questions on topics ranging from drug use to House satisfaction to post-graduation plans. We assume the sample is a random selection and therefore discount any selection bias. The results paint a picture of the class that graduates this week.
Where We Stand: The Class of 2013 Senior Survey
In a year marked by a major cheating scandal at Harvard, more than 30 percent of graduating seniors admit they have cheated on a homework assignment during their four years as undergraduates.
Engagement: Nicholas B. Waldo ’13 and Hannah M. Hostetler
In high school in Alaska, we lived 90 miles apart. The only way to see each other was by flying or ferrying. But you should never write anything off because it seems like a long shot.
