U.S. Representative John Lewis
U.S. Representative John Lewis receives an Honorary Doctor of Laws degree at Harvard's Commencement Exercises on Thursday while fellow awardees Kwame Anthony Appiah and Wendy Kopp look on. Lewis received the degree for his years as a leader in the Civil Rights Movement as chairman of the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee and his continued service to the nation as a congressman.
BUCKING THE TREND
After a string of disappointing seasons, the Harvard men’s hockey team was picked to finish last in the ECAC in one preseason poll. But the Crimson surpassed all expectations this season, ultimately earning a top-25 national ranking and a spot in the ECAC championship.

For the third time in four years, the whistle signaling the end of the Harvard women’s soccer team’s regular season also meant that it was time to hoist up some hardware.
FEMALE ROOKIE OF THE YEAR, RUNNER-UP: Tiffany Lim
Coming into the season ranked as the sixth-best freshman in the nation by Golfweek Magazine, Tiffany Lim immediately justified the lofty expectations in her first three collegiate tournaments.
PEP RALLY
After earning a national ranking as high as No. 4, junior co-captain Walter Peppelman finished eigth at the NCAA tournament in March. Peppelman finished the season with a 29-7 record in the 157-pound weight class, bringing his career win total to 92. Peppelman also recorded 11 falls, a team high.
WRESTLING: Individual Success Characterizes Year
Coming off of a year that had very few individual or team victories, the Harvard wrestling team (5-10, 1-4 Ivy) performed considerably better in 2011-12, sending four grapplers to the NCAA tournament—the most since 2007—and posting its best head-to-head record since the 2008-09 season.

After replacing freshman goaltender Steve Michalek late in the year, sophomore Raphael Girard shined in the postseason.
