While a history professor at Harvard during the 1960 campaign, Arthur M.  Schlesinger, Jr. '38 published the book “Kennedy or Nixon: Does It Make Any Difference?” He concluded that it did make a difference—that Kennedy was the clearly correct choice.
He became special assistant to the president after Kennedy’s election and later published “A Thousand Days: John F. Kennedy in the White House,” a first-hand history of Kennedy’s tragically abbreviated presidency.
