Jodi Kantor to Discuss 'The Obamas'

New York Times correspondent Jodi Kantor left Harvard Law School to pursue a career in journalism, but this Tuesday evening she returns to Cambridge to discuss and sign copies of her recently released book, "The Obamas," at an event hosted by the Harvard Book Store.

"Even though I left Harvard, I keep circling back to it," Kantor said.

"The Obamas," according to Kantor, is unique in that it focuses on the president and the first lady equally, as well as on their relationship. "The book brings people deep inside the White House. It's a discussion of how the White House can be a strange place to make a living," she said. The book considers themes such as the effects power can have and the pressures of being a role model.

The release of "The Obamas" was a controversial one—the White House issued an official statement in early January calling the book an "over-dramatization of old news."

Harvard Law School professor John G. Palfrey '94 will moderate tomorrow's discussion. The event begins at 7 p.m. and is not ticketed, although space is limited. Guests are welcome to bring their own copy of the book or purchase one at the Harvard Book Store for Kantor to sign.
