Amazon Ranks Cambridge Most 'Well-Read' American City

Buying all those textbooks on Amazon.com seems to have paid off. Cambridge, Mass. ranked first in Amazon.com's list of the most well-read cities in the United States, the Fortune 500 company announced at the end of May.

The rankings were calculated by compiling data for book, magazine, and newspaper sales in both print and Kindle formats since Jan. 1, 2011 per capita in cities with more than 100,000 residents.

Additionally, Cambridge—home to Harvard and MIT—was also the city that ordered the most nonfiction books. Alexandria, Va., which came in second place in the most well-read rankings, was the city that ordered the most children's books.
