June 28-July 4: Bottle Rockets Galore
In the days leading up to Independence Day, the police squad seemed to have had a good batch of "suspicious activity"-making, window-banging, and bottle rocket-launching to deal with. Check out some of the weirder extracts from the HUPD police logs:

ASSIST CAMBRIDGE POLICE (8:02 a.m.)
Kiosk, 1400 Mass. Ave., Cambridge
Officer dispatched to a report of an individual crying. Officer reports CPD was notified of the incident and took over the scene when they arrived.
ROBBERY REPORT (5:06 p.m.)
Spangler Center, 117 Western Ave., Allston
Officers dispatched to a report of a theft in progress. Officers arrived and spoke to the reporting party who stated they were sitting on a couch using their Apple iPad that was valued at $200.00. When they were finished, they placed the iPad into their backpack that was on the floor. The reporting party stated an unknown individual approached them, grabbed their backpack and fled the area. The reporting party gave chase and the individual then dropped the backpack and continued to flee. Officers searched the area for the individual with negative results. The reporting party recovered their items.

Officer dispatched to a report that an individuals [sic] bicycle was stolen. Officer arrived and was informed the reporting individual was unavailable. The officer informed the individual to call the HUPD when they are available to file a report.
SUSPICIOUS ACTIVITY (4:35 p.m.)
7 Bryant St., Cambridge
Officer dispatched to a rep[ort [sic] of an open door. Officer arrived, checked the building and reports all is in order. Officer secured the door.

DISORDERLY CONDUCT (12:55 a.m.)
45 Mt. Auburn St., Cambridge
Officers dispatched to a report of an individual following another individual. Officers were informed the individual was banging on the window of the bus and blocking it so it could not leave the area. Upon arrival officers located the individual banging on the window of the bus and informed them to get away from the bus and sit down. The individual attempted to walk away from the area. Officers instructed the individual to sit again and the individual complied but got up and started to flee the area. The individual began shouting, spitting and flailing their arms. Officers placed the individual under arrest. While the officer was handcuffing the individual they pulled away from the officer and attempted to flee again.
SUSPICIOUS ODOR/SMOKE (1:31 p.m.)
International House 199, 199 Park Dr., Boston
Officers dispatched to a report of a gas leak. Upon arrival officers were informed an individual accidentally bumped into one of the knobs on their stove and an odor of gas dispersed in the area. Officers report everything was in order and management was notified.
THEFT REPORT (4:21 p.m. to 4:25 p.m.)
Kresge Dining Hall, 49 Harvard Way, Allston
Officer dispatched to take a report of three ornamental eagles that were attached to a decorative log. The eagles were valued at $150.00.

370 Western Ave., Allston
Officer dispatched to a report of a mulch fire. Officer arrived along with the Boston Fire Department and extinguished the fire. Officer reports ten plastic slats were damaged.

NOISE COMPLAINT (1:09 a.m.)
Lampoon, 44 Bow St, Cambridge
Officers dispatched to a report of loud noise. Officers arrived and spoke to a group of individuals on the steps and to told them to keep the noise down.
SUSPICIOUS ACTIVITY (10:10 p.m.)
Winthrop House F, 32 Mill St., Cambridge
Officer dispatched to take a report of suspicious activity. Officer arrived and spoke to the reporting party who stated they heard keys jingling in the entry door of their residence. The reporting party then entered the hallway and called out to see if anyone was in the area with negative results. Officer reports FMO was notified to change the locks on the door.

Officers dispatched to a report of people jumping off the bridge into the water. Officers arrived and report there is no one in the water.

Officer dispatched to take a report of a broken window pane that was caused by a soccer ball.
DISTURBANCE (8:19 p.m.)

Officers dispatched to a report of individuals shooting bottle rockets and causing a disturbance. Officers arrived and told the group to stop their activities.
