High school hockey star Devin Tringale recently committed to Harvard. The 17-year-old Medford native is currently a junior at Lawrence Academy in Groton, Mass.
“Everyone’s excited,” Tringale said of committing to play for the Crimson. “We’re obviously pumped up about it.”
Even though Harvard’s men’s hockey team has struggled earlier in the season, the squad has been holding its own and impressing many in the past week. Sophomore defensemen Danny Biega put up a series of impressive performances, winning Inside College Hockey National Player of the Week, ECAC Hockey MLX Skates Player of the Week, and Harvard COOP Athlete of the Week.

As midterms and papers slowly crush all of us, the athletes of Harvard are crunched for time as they battle to win not only Ivy League glory, but national recognition too. Basketball is coming to a close and a chance at making history is on the horizon. While women’s squash may have come to a close, the men’s team can redeem themselves after last week’s loss to Yale, and the women’s swimming and diving Ivy League Championships are on tap for this week. As the basketball regular seasons come to a close, both Harvard men’s and women’s squads have a chance at doing something that’s never happened in this history of Harvard: hold the Ivy League title at the same time. The men’s team has never won the title and currently sits atop the rankings alongside rival Princeton, while the women’s team is one game behind the Tigers. If it wins the Ivy League it will receive its first bid to NCAA March Madness tournament to compete for the national championship. Princeton’s men’s team had sole possession of first place until this past weekend when the Tigers lost to Brown in a major upset.
Even though Harvard, the country's No. 2 ranked women’s squash team, is coming off a tough loss to No. 1 Yale in the national championship, the squad must now prepare for the CSA Individual Championships from March 4-6. Stats: So far this season, Mashruwala has gone 8-5, mostly playing at No. 3. Last year, Mashruwala finished 10-5 overall as she helped her squad win a national title and was named to the All-America Second Team. In her first two seasons, she went a combined 24-5.

The men’s basketball team goes on the road this weekend to contend in two Ivy League matchups. Friday night at 7 p.m., the Crimson will face the Cornell Big Red in Ithaca, N.Y., and Saturday night at 7p.m., it will take on the Columbia Lions in New York City. Currently, Harvard is 18-4 overall and 7-1 in the Ivy League, good for second place in the standings. The road team will look to bring home two big victories from the Empire State in its pursuit of the Ivy title.
The Crimson women’s basketball team will look to rebound from its road trip last weekend as it takes on opponents Cornell and Columbia at Lavietes Pavilion this weekend. It is alumnae weekend for Harvard, which will take on the Big Red on Friday night at 7 p.m. Wear pink to Saturday’s game against the Lions at 6 p.m. and enter free to raise breast cancer awareness! Every game is now crucial for the Crimson women’s basketball team as it looks to improve its 5-2 Ivy League record.
