Malcolm Howard ’05 is back on the podium. After three undefeated seasons with Harvard and Olympic Gold with Canada in 2008, Howard and the Canadian men’s eight rowed to a silver medal in the morning of day five of the London Olympic Games at a packed Eton Dorney.

Day 4 at the London Olympics: Newell's '11 Medal chase comes to an end
Day four at the London Olympic Games was one of the bitter defeat for the lone Harvard alum in competition. Will Newell ’11 and his American boat narrowly missed out on the A final of men’s lightweight four at the Eton Dorney rowing complex. Racing in lane one of the first semifinal, Newell and co. stayed in contention for the first 1,500 meters of the course, alternating between third and fourth place with Germany as Great Britain and Switzerland led the pack.
Day 2 at the London Olympics: Davies, Lofgren, and Newell All Advance

The second day of the 2012 London Olympic Games proved more fruitful for the cadre of competing Harvard students and alums than the first. The lone highlight of day one was rower Brodie Buckland’s ’06 (Australia) qualification for the semifinals in the pair. After rowers Will Newell ’11 (USA) and Malcolm Howard ’05 (Canada) failed to qualify for the semifinals of the lightweight four and men’s eight, respectively, and British basketball player Temi Fagbenle ’15 put up just four points in a disappointing opening game loss to Australia, things were looking bleak for the Crimson.
Day 3 at the London Olympics: Howard '05 and Rummel '09 move on
Henrik Rummel '09 (left) will compete for United States Rowing in the fours in next week's Olympic Games in London.
On day three of the rowing competition on the course at Eton Dorney, two more Harvard rowers have advanced to the next stage. After a victory in the third heat of the men’s four, Henrik Rummel ’09 and Team USA have advanced to the semifinals. The American boat led the Netherlands from start to finish, narrowly crossing the line in first by just over a second.
Day 1 at the London Olympics: Buckland '06 advances
The first day of competition on the Eton Dorney rowing complex is over, and so far it’s been a mixed bag of results for Harvard alumni out on the water.
The best result of the day came for Brodie Buckland ’06 of Australia in the men’s pair. Along with teammate James Marburg, Buckland came second in his heat, progressing the pair to the semifinals on Wednesday.
