Men's Volleyball Coach Named to National Team Staff

By Martin Kessler, Crimson Staff Writer

While the Harvard men’s volleyball team hopes to be alive in the EIVA playoffs long enough to still be playing in May, the team’s head coach Brian Baise already knows that he will be coaching in May.

From May 22-30, Baise will serve as an assistant coach to the USA men’s volleyball national team while it defends it title in the 2010 Pan-American Cup.

Last season, the United States team went undefeated, winning four matches in five days against the Dominican Republic and Canada. In the championship, the US rallied from a 2-1 deficit to capture the title over Canada in five sets.

Baise will join some familiar faces on the sideline. Returning to coach the national team for another season is Rick McLaughlin, head coach of UC Santa Barbara, a team that defeated the Crimson, 3-0, earlier this season.
