Cambridge police responded to a non-fatal shooting near MIT on Thursday evening where one person was non-fatally injured, the Cambridge Police Department announced in a Citywide Alert.
Officers responded to “a report of shots fired” at the intersection of Main St. and Windsor St. shortly after 7 p.m., CPD wrote in a citywide alert Thursday evening, adding that the victim was taken to a nearby hospital.
The shooting is Cambridge’s fourth this year as reported by CPD.
Weeks after a Dorchester man was injured in a shooting in Cambridgeport, 21-year-old Angel Nieves was fatally shot in North Cambridge in January.
A month later, police responded to reports of multiple gunshots near Kendall Square, though there were no injuries reported. Three minors were later charged in connection with the shooting.
The alert was sent to neighborhoods of The Port, East Cambridge, Inman Square, and MIT. CPD units remained on scene more than two hours later and the investigation is “very active,” according to a Robert P. Reardon, a CPD spokesperson.
Reardon declined comment beyond the initial alert, adding that CPD units are still on the scene as of 9 p.m. Thursday night.
