CPD Responds to Shots Fired Near MIT

The Cambridge Police Department reported “shots fired” near Kendall Square on Monday afternoon, the latest in a string of gunfire incidents that the city has faced over the last two months.

Officers responded to “multiple gunshots” coming from Bishop Allen Drive at 2:15 p.m. Monday while responding to “an unrelated call,” CPD wrote in a citywide alert shortly after 3:30 p.m

“The officer immediately called for assistance and attempted to intervene when they observed several suspects flee the area,” CPD wrote.

There are currently no known victims. Ballistic evidence was located at the intersection of Bishop Allen Drive and School Street. CPD does not believe that there is an active threat to the community, according to a department spokesperson.

The alert was sent to the Cambridge neighborhoods of The Port, Cambridgeport, and MIT, and the area is being investigated.

The incident comes on the back of multiple shootings in Cambridge over the last month and a half.

A Dorchester man was shot non-fatally in Cambridgeport on Jan 3. Less than two weeks later, 21-year-old Angel Nieves was killed in what CPD believed to be a targeted shooting in North Cambridge that drew backlash and calls for heightened communication from neighborhood residents.
