A 21-year-old man died after being shot multiple times in North Cambridge on Monday, the Cambridge Police Department said, in the city’s second shooting of 2025.
Cambridge Police responded to a report of multiple gunshots near Clifton Street around 11:30 p.m. on Monday, according to a CPD citywide alert. Police later identified Angel Nieves, a Springfield resident, outside of a nearby residence suffering from gunshot wounds.
Nieves was transported to Mount Auburn Hospital and was later pronounced dead, the Middlesex County District Attorney’s Office confirmed Tuesday.
The shooting is currently believed to be an isolated incident and is actively being investigated, the office wrote in a statement.
The North Cambridge shooting is the second in Cambridge since the start of 2025. A 43-year-old man from Dorchester was non-fatally shot in Cambridgeport on Jan. 3.
Crime in Cambridge has steadily climbed in the years since the pandemic, according to CPD’s annual crime analysis. There were 488 violent crimes reported in 2023, the latest year for which data is available.
