Abramson To Extend Time at Harvard by One Year

Jill E. Abramson ’76, visiting lecturer in the English Department and former executive editor of the New York Times, will remain in her position at Harvard through the 2015-2016 school year.

Abramson came to Harvard last fall as a visiting lecturer after leaving her position at the New York Times. Her time at Harvard was originally scheduled to last one academic year.

“I am thrilled to be teaching another year, especially when journalism is in such an interesting, challenging, transformational time,” wrote Abramson in an email. “I am dazzled by the insights and writing abilities of my Harvard students.”

“Jill’s commitment to the department and to the University, but above all to our students, has been exemplary,” wrote English Department Chair W. James Simpson in an email.

At Harvard, Abramson teaches a workshop on narrative non-fiction journalism, called English Cijr: Introduction to Journalism. Abramson’s extended contract coincides with an English Department initiative to strengthen the creative writing program.
