The Harvard women's tennis team beat St. John's University, 4-3, Saturday afternoon at the Murr Center. The Crimson won seven straight matches—three in doubles, four in singles—before the Red Storm tallied its three points of the day.
Harvard showed strong doubles play once again and came out on top on all three courts.
With the doubles point secured, the Crimson moved on to singles.
Freshman Kelly Whelan finished her match first after her opponent retired after only three sets on the No. 5 court.
Junior co-captain Hideko Tachibana handled her foe on the No. 2 court, 6-0, 6-0, to put Harvard within one point of the team win.
At the No. 6 spot, freshman Sylvia Li notched the win for the home team with a 6-1, 6-0 victory over the Red Storm's Terri Thomas.
Though the Crimson dropped its next three matches at the No. 1, 3, and 4 positions, Harvard's four early team points secured the win.
