Ilya Chalik ’11, a History and Science concentrator in Adams House, died today, Dean of Harvard College Evelynn M. Hammonds wrote in an e-mail to the College community.
Chalik was President of the Harvard Tai Chi Tiger Crane Club, Secretary of the Harvard College in Asia Program, and an active member of Harvard Hillel. He had also worked as a stacks assistant at Widener Library since 2007.
Many members of the Adams community were informed of Chalik’s death in a 4 p.m. meeting with House and College administrators in Adams dining hall. In an e-mail to Adams residents, Adams Resident Dean Sharon L. Howell called Chalik’s death “a terrible tragedy.”
As part of procedure, police are currently conducting an investigation into Chalik’s passing.
Harvard University Health Services has counselors available for students that need assistance.
