BROWN RECOVERS, and that'll be it with 1:02 remaining and just one timeout for the Crimson. Brown will break a streak of eight consecutive losses to Harvard, and with Cornell's 17-7 lead on Yale, it appears that the Bears may have just staked an early claim on the Ivy race.
AND THE TWO POINT CONVERSION IS STOPPED! JENKINS IS STUFFED JUST SHORT, AND HARVARD WILL HAVE TO GO FOR THE ONSIDES KICK.
4th quarter, 1:10: After an incompletion on first down, Pizzotti runs to the 3 on second down. Harvard takes its second timeout, and O'Hagan comes out for the third-down play...AND O'HAGAN HITS MATT LUFT FOR A TOUCHDOWN IN THE BACK OF THE END ZONE, AND THERE'S A PERSONAL FOUL PENALTY FOR ROUGHING THE PASSER. O'HAGAN'S ONE APPEARANCE IS A GOOD ONE, AND HARVARD WILL GO FOR TWO FROM THE 1 1/2 YARD LINE AFTER THE PENALTY.
4th quarter, 1:26: Pizzotti hits RICHARDS AT THE 7, it's 1st-and-goal for the Crimson.
4th quarter, 1:41: Pizzotti scrambles with no one open downfield and converts a 2nd-and-inches. The rain has started again here in Providence, so this comeback will be even more difficult.
4th quarter, 2:37: Pizzotti throws it directly into the arms of Brown's Nkosi Still, but he drops the pick and Harvard lives to fight another play.
4th quarter, 3:07: Pizzotti throws for Iannuzzi on 3rd-and-5, but he gets drilled as the ball arrives and it's 4th-and-5. Here's your ballgame...and PIZZOTTI HITS LEVI RICHARDS, FIRST DOWN at the Brown 46.
4th quarter, 4:14: An absolutely critical penalty on the Crimson, as Harvard is flagged for a false start on 3rd-and-3. On 3rd-and-8, Pizzotti dumps it off to Gordon, who just gets to the marker for a first down. A huge, huge conversion for the Crimson as the clock ticks under four minutes.
4th quarter, 4:45: The Crimson finally gets a third-down stop, and after the punt Harvard takes over at its own 25. You have to think that this will be the last lengthy possession for the Crimson, so a score needs to happen now.
4th quarter, 6:46: Another huge conversion for Brown, as Daugherty hits Sewall for a first down on 3rd-and-7.
4th quarter, 7:53: After a screen pass is incomplete, Harvard will punt again from its own 46. The Crimson is rapidly running out of chances.
4th quarter, 9:42: A lucky break for the Crimson, as Matthew Hansen never turns around to the ball and the pass is caught in the end zone, but the official rules that the ball hit the ground. Ryan Burkhead gets Harvard's first sack of the game on the next play, and Brown settles for a FIELD GOAL. Your score is now 24-16 Brown.
4th quarter, 11:33: Once again, a missed opportunity for the Harvard defense. Daugherty goes deep and is nearly picked by Andrew Berry, but Berry drops the tough pick. After a Dereck Knight run, it's 4th-and-6 for the Bears on the Harvard 28, and...Brown converts! Daugherty hits Matthew Sudfeld for a first down.
4th quarter, 12:25: Another third down conversion for Brown, as Dereck Knight breaks a tackle at the line of scrimmage and picks up 18 on 3rd-and-1.
4th quarter, 13:59: A critical penalty--Brown was facing 3rd-and-5, and Brenton Bryant gets called for lining up in the neutral zone. Even worse, Bryant dropped off into pass coverage on the play and had intercepted the pass, so instead of a turnover it's a Brown first down.
End of the 3rd quarter: Harvard's got its work cut out for it here in the fourth quarter, although the offense finally showed signs of life on that field goal drive.
3rd quarter, 0:35: Jason Miller makes the catch on third down but is driven back to the 10, and Harvard settles for a Patrick Long FIELD GOAL. Brown 21, Harvard 16.
3rd quarter, 1:46: A critical 3rd-and-9 for the Crimson is converted by a Gino Gordon draw, and Harvard has 1st-and-10 at the Brown 13.
3rd quarter, 4:35: Buddy Farnham breaks free over the middle, Daugherty hits him at the 2, and Farnham pushes in for a TOUCHDOWN BROWN. The extra point is good, and the Bears lead 21-13.
3rd quarter, 6:01: Facing a third down, Brown goes deep to Bobby Sewall, who beats Matthew Hanson up the right sideline for a 38 yard completion. It's 1st-and-10 Brown at the Harvard 34.
3rd quarter, 8:45: A Brown defensive back grabs Matt Luft and flips him over before the ball gets there, but there's no call and the Harvard fans boo lustily.
3rd quarter, 10:34: Derrick Barker makes a nice play, breaking up a pass on third down and forcing a punt. Let's see if the Harvard offense can get something going--Pizzotti and Co. have 1st-and-10 at their own 19 after the punt.
3rd quarter, 13:26: The rain has almost completely stopped here in Providence for the moment, although radar shows more headed our way.
3rd quarter, 13:52: Brown goes for it on 4th-and-6, and Daughery overthrows Sewall in the end zone. Great coverage by the Crimson secondary. 1st-and-10 Harvard at the 30.
3rd quarter, 14:47: The Crimson runs one play, and Gino Gordon coughs up another fumble. Brown's in business, 1st-and-10 at the Harvard 34.
It's halftime, and your score is 14-13 Brown.
0:43, 2nd quarter: It was a three-and-out for Brown, and now Harvard is attempting to reclaim the lead before the break. The Crimson is facing 3rd-and-10 on the Brown 42...and it's incomplete, looking for Iannuzzi.
3:24, 2nd quarter: The teams have traded punts, with the most recent being Thomas Hull's 25-yard effort. Brown has 1st-and-10 at midfield.
6:38, 2nd quarter: A booming punt by Thomas Hull is muffed, but Brown recovers at the 26.
7:35, 2nd quarter: The Crimson, facing 3rd-and-1, commits a false start and Harvard backs up five yards. Pizzotti's deep shot for Lorditch goes through his outstretched hands, and the Crimson will punt.
8:37, 2nd quarter: Facing 3rd-and-goal on the Harvard 3, Bobby Sewall takes the handoff, bounces outside, and SCORES, TOUCHDOWN BROWN. The extra point is good, and Harvard trails 14-13.
9:23, 2nd quarter: The rain has really picked up here, and the weather forecast is still calling for almost an inch of rain for the day.
9:57, 2nd quarter: Pass interference on Derrick Barker (the second call against him today), and Brown has 1st-and-goal at the Harvard 5.
10:21, 2nd quarter: Sorry for the delay, folks. There were some internet problems here at Brown Stadium. In any case, a lot to fill you in on. Michael Daugherty hit three consecutive passes of 19, 14, and 25 yards to give Brown a TOUCHDOWN and make it 13-7. On the ensuing kick return, Berry fumbled and Brown recovered, but on the Bears' first play Daugherty was drilled as he released the ball and his fluttering pass was picked off by Derrick Barker. Then, to complete the comedy of errors, Ben Jenkins took the handoff and powered for 10 yards, only to fumble and have Brown recover (although the Harvard side is protesting that the ground forced the fumble).
14:53, 2nd quarter: It only takes one play, as Gordon busts up the middle for 17 YARDS AND A TOUCHDOWN. Long has no problems this time, and it's 13-0 Crimson.
End of 1st quarter: A couple of long completions, the first to Luft and the second to Nicolai Schwatzkopf, have put the Crimson at the Brown 17 and threatening to score again.
2:03, 1st quarter: Facing 3rd-and-13 at the four, Gino Gordon busts a big run on the draw out to the 19 and a first down, and Harvard is out of the shadow of its own goalposts.
2:58, 1st quarter: The Brown threat ends as the pass bounces off of William Averill's hands and into the waiting arms of Andrew Berry, who returns the ball to the seven. It's 1st-and-10 there for Pizzotti and the Harvard offense.
3:17, 1st quarter: High snap is fumbled by Brown, but Daugherty recovers and throws it out of the back of the end zone to avoid the loss. It's 3rd and 16 on the Harvard 20.
5:43, 1st quarter: Another first down for the Bears, this time on the Harvard 25. Daugherty is hitting is receivers, but the running game has been surprisingly effective for Brown, as Jonathan Edwards and Dereck Knight have had some big runs.
7:16, 1st quarter: Brown is on the move, as Daugherty hits Farnham at the Crimson 39 for another first down.
8:11, 1st quarter: Pizzotti's back to pass, and Matt Luft comes wide open behind the secondary and HAULS IN A 53 YARD TOUCHDOWN PASS. Patrick Long line drives the extra point into the crossbar, and the score is 6-0 Harvard here in Providence.
9:19, 1st quarter: This time it's Iannuzzi making a great diving grab to keep the drive alive.
11:25, 1st quarter: Pizzotti hits Luft over the middle for a critical third-down conversion. Harvard is on its own 25 after being backed up by a huge punt.
12:35, 1st quarter: A couple updates: Gino Gordon gets the start at tailback, and there's a steady but relatively light rain here in Providence, not the torrential downpours everyone feared.
13:13, 1st quarter: Kickoff is short, but the Brown returner slips and goes down at the 23. It's a quick three-and-out for the Bears.
12:15 before game time: The Harvard band is on the field, mocking Brown's fundraising drive, and we're back for some Ivy League action. Follow along...
