Faust Hosts Ice Cream Bash

Lamont Lemon, Cookie Endoughment, and Berry-tas were just a few of the Harvard-themed flavors available at University President Drew G. Faust's ice cream party yesterday afternoon.

The celebration marked the first day of Faust's second year as president. She made her first public appearance as president at a similar ice cream bash one year ago.

When asked if she would keep holding this event annually on July 1, Faust said, "I don't know. What do you think? Should we?" then laughed and added, "If people like it, we'll do it."

Coldplay's Viva La Vida and Rihanna's Umbrella played in the background as Faust mingled and talked with those present, pausing to shake hands and pose for pictures.

Members of the Harvard community received an email Monday morning inviting them to the party.

Faculty, staff, students—including a few undergraduates, and plenty of curious tourists flocked to the tables set up in Harvard Yard where Crimson Catering scooped up ice cream into waffle cone bowls.

"Ice cream is delicious," said Siyuan Liu '11, who had more than one bowl of his favorite flavor, Triple Chocolate Swirl, while on a break from working in his research lab in the Bauer Center for Systems Biology.

Chemistry graduate student Billy Au voiced a similar sentiment.

"Getting free food is fun," he said. "That's what being a grad student is all about."

Ice cream scoopers included so-called "Celebrity Scoopers"—deans and other high ranking Harvard officials.

Summer School student Robert L. Chamorro was not as excited with the bash, although there was plenty of his favorite flavor, Cooke Endoughment.

"I think there's too many things involved with ice cream here," he said. "The first day we were here there was the dean's ice cream party, now this thing."
