Diane M. Paulus '87 will be the next artistic director for the Harvard-affiliated American Repertory Theatre (A.R.T.), the University announced Friday afternoon.
The announcement comes after a protracted search that began over a year ago, after the theater's board of directors decided not to renew the contract of then-director Robert Woodruff, whom some criticized for the theatre's recent financial difficulties, the Boston Globe reported.
Since her undergraduate years, when Paulus got her first tastes of the A.R.T., she has directed numerous theatrical productions in the United States and internationally, ranging from opera to disco- and karaoke-adaptation of plays by William Shakespeare, according to an A.R.T. press release.
She teaches now at Barnard College, Columbia University, the Yale School of Drama.
Paulus could not be reached for comment late Friday afternoon.
