Laptops and Lockboxes Stolen from HLS Building Over the Weekend

By Alexander R. Konrad, Crimson Staff Writer

Three laptops and several lockboxes were stolen from Harvard Law School’s Hauser Hall last weekend, according to the Harvard University Police Department’s public logs.

Officers dispatched to the scene spoke to an unidentified member of the Law School staff who reported that two lockboxes containing keys and small amounts of cash were taken off the wall.

The thief also reportedly stole three Lenovo laptops, each valued at $2000 or more.

The police log states that officers conducted a field interview of an individual involved. HUPD arrested the individual in the course of its investigation, but not specifically for the theft.

HUPD Spokesman Steven G. Catalano said that the man had access to the room in which the stolen items were kept.

Detectives took the man into custody because of an outstanding warrant for a different incident.

Catalano did not disclose the reason for that warrant, and Law School officials declined to comment on the arrest.

“The one thing that we are prepared to say is that the laptops were loaners and that we have been able to ascertain that there is no private or confidential data on them,” said Robb London, the acting associate dean of communications at the Law School.

The investigation of the laptop thefts is ongoing.

In an unrelated incident, officers arrested a 65-year-old man found lying in the trash room of 20 DeWolfe Street on Tuesday night.
