Akpan Named to Training Camp Roster

By Alexandra J. Mihalek, Crimson Staff Writer

After an impressive showing at the CONCACAF Qualifying Tournament in Panama this past winter, freshman Andre Akpan has been named to the roster of an upcoming U-20 training camp in Canada.

The camp, which takes place in three of the six sites that will be used for the World Cup this summer, will not only help head coach Thomas Rongen decide which players from the U-20 Team pool will represent the United States at the World Cup, but will also give the team a chance to play on the fields that will be used during the tournament.

Akpan, who scored over a quarter of the U.S.’s total goals during the team’s showing in Panama, will be attending the camp with fifteen other hopefuls, ranging from fellow collegiate soccer players to members of foreign clubs and professional soccer teams.
