In a tune-up before the team’s dual meet against Yale, the Harvard track teams traveled to Providence to face Brown and other local universities in a meet where no team scores were kept.
Crimson tracksters competed strong, with junior Clara Blattler posting the only women’s win of the day, taking first in the pole vault.
Sophomore Brittan Smith took second in the long jump with a 5.42-meter leap, while junior Danielle Mirabal landed at fourth in the same event with a 5.24-meter jump. Sophomore Aishlinn O’Callaghan finished second in the 800 meters in 2:12.4, while freshman Kelli Okuji was third in the 400-meter hurdles in 1:05.35.
In the javelin, senior Julia Pederson and freshman Eda Karesin continued their strong performances, with Pederson placing second after a 40.46-meter throw and Karesin one spot behind with a 35.52-meter toss.
On the men’s side, the shot put was the strongest event, with junior Alex Obrecht taking first with a 15.49-meter toss and freshman Jack Brady taking second after a 15.04-meter throw.
Freshman Justin Grinstead was the team’s other winner, taking the 400-meter hurdles in 54.56 seconds, while classmate George Eggers was fourth in the same event. Sophomore Derek Jones finished second in the 200 meters after a 22.94 second time.
Freshman Neville Irani took second in the hammer throw with a 51.0-meter heave, while senior co-captain Christian Ayers was fourth with a 50.04-meter toss.
Freshman Graham Infinger was fourth in the long jump after a 6.64-meter leap.
The team will face Yale next weekend at McCurdy Track in its sole home meet of the spring season. Events begin at noon.
