Fire Shuts Down Quincy Street For One Hour

A small fire broke out in the Dana-Palmer House across from the Barker Center last night, after a heat gun used to remove paint ignited wood in the roof.

A flurry of activity shut down Quincy Street for nearly an hour as several fire trucks, police cars, and an ambulance showed up at the scene to combat the fire, first called in at around 6:45 p.m., according to Cambridge Fire Department Deputy Fire Chief John J. Cotter.

Nobody was injured in the blaze.

According to Cotter, the flames broke out in a corner of the roof of the historical building, which used to lie across Quincy Street where Lamont Library now stands. The fire was contained to the roof, Cotter said.

“It was extinguished quickly,” he said.
