Globe Bookstore Travels The Square

It closed its Church Street doors this past July, but reopened for its customers in a new location last Saturday.

Harvard Square’s 20 year-old travel shop, the Globe Corner bookstore, is now selling on the ground floor of the Harvard University Libraries building at 90 Mt. Auburn Street.

Because the rent was too high at the previous larger location, the store moved to a smaller Harvard-owned space.

“It’s a great spot,” said co-owner Harriet B. Carrier, who shares the business with her husband, Patrick W. Carrier.

“It’s better for our business overall.”

Loyal customers have not missed a beat and are back to the store in its new location.

During the ten-month break, customers were able to continue buying items online at globecorner.com.

During that period, the store did lose business from shoppers who specifically wanted the store experience and did not buy products online, according to Harriet Carrier.

But the store has quickly gotten back on its feet, and Carrier said she has seen many familiar faces.

“We had really great times in the square and we are looking forward to many more,” she said.
