Professors today approved legislation that will extend the concentration choice deadline for students beginning with the Class of 2010 from the end of their freshman year to the first semester of their sophomore year.
The move, which was recommended by a committee of the College’s ongoing Curricular Review, was approved by a voice vote at a full meeting of the Faculty of Arts and Sciences this afternoon.
The legislation requires students to meet with an adviser from at least one prospective concentration by the end of their freshman year.
The Faculty also approved the restructuring of concentrations in the life sciences; the biology concentration will be eliminated, the biochemical sciences concentration will be renamed the concentration in molecular and cellular biology, and four new specialized concentrations will be created.
The new concentrations created were in organismic and evolutionary biology, human and evolutionary biology, chemical and physical biology, and neurobiology.
