Eighteen Elected To College Events Board

Seven at-large members of the College Events Board (CEB) were named yesterday, completing the lineup of what will be the first board to serve a full two-semester term.

The announcement followed a series of elections last week that put a representative from each upperclass dorm on the board—save for Leverett House, which did not have a candidate declared for the election prior to the eligibility deadline.

“I think that this year, as the first year commonly is for any new major organization...was kind of ‘testing the waters,’” said Sopen B. Shah ’08, who was re-elected to the CEB.

Shah said her vision for possible change in CEB programming included the addition of smaller, more frequent events—with the pub in Loker Commons scheduled to open this spring as a potential location.

“We want to have room to kind of brainstorm for new ideas,” she said.

Unlike Shah, who will serve as an elected representative of Eliot House, Rachel E. Flynn ’09 earned her spot on the board after going through an application process to become an at-large member.

“It’s a pretty extensive application,” Flynn said. She was asked to list “commitments at Harvard, what you think the CEB does that you appreciate, and what you think can be improved.”

While Campus Life Fellow John T. Drake ’06 said that the absence of a directly elected Leverett House representative was “disheartening”, the more recently completed at-large selection did produce a resident CEB member for the House, Iheanacho O. Emeruwa ’09.

Drake said he envisions the next guard of the CEB attempting to work more closely with existing groups on campus through outreach and co-sponsored events.

The other elected CEB House representatives are: Mziko Lapiashvili ’09 of Adams; Jack F. Pararas ’08 of Cabot; Michael E. Blair ’08 of Currier; Julie R. S. Fogarty ’08 of Dunster; Chinwe U. Nwosu ’08 of Kirkland; Shaan K. Hathiramani ’08 of Lowell; Kai Wu ’09 of Mather; Reva P. Minkoff ’08 of Pforzheimer; Neesha M. Rao ’08 of Quincy; and Adam Goldenberg ’08 of Winthrop.

Fogarty is a Crimson associate sports chair. Goldenberg and Minkoff are both Crimson editorial editors. Pararas is a Crimson magazine editor.

The other selected members-at-large are: Michael F. Ayoub ’10; Nitesh Banta ’08; Paayal R. Gupta ’08; Christopher N. Lewis ’09, and Armen I. Yerevanian ’08.

The new members are joined on the CEB by the chair of the Harvard Concert Commission, D. Zachary Tanjeloff ’08, and the chair of the First Year Social Committee, Erica B. Richey ’10.
