Crimson Eases Past Bobcats

The No. 7 Harvard women's hockey team easily dispatched host Quinnipiac, 6-1, at the Northford Ice Pavilion on Friday night.

The Crimson (8-1-0, 8-1-0 ECAC) received goals from five different sources as it trounced the Bobcats (4-10-0, 3-7-0) in a messy conference affair.

After a scoreless opening period, sophomore Jenny Brine got Harvard on the board with a power-play strike, her 13th goal of the season, at the 7:33 mark. Classmate Sarah Vaillancourt pushed the lead to 2-0 with her 9th of the year at 11:55, and senior Liza Solley followed just over a minute later with the lone even-strength tally of the night. Freshman Cori Bassett, who also racked up three assists in the contest, notched her first collegiate goal with 45 seconds remaining in the frame.

Bassett's was one of five Crimson power-play goals, including co-captain Julie Chu's and Vaillancourt's second of the evening, on 13 Quinnipiac fouls. In all, the Bobcats accumulated 52 penalty minutes, with two separate game misconduct infractions.

Kallie Flor broke up sophomore netminder Brittany Martin's shutout with just over two minutes left in the game. Martin finished with a mere eight saves—a testament to the Crimson defense—in her 7th victory of the season. Laura Brennan made 39 stops for Quinnipiac.

Harvard finishes the trip on Saturday at Princeton, which suffered its first loss of the season, to Dartmouth, 6-3, on Friday night.
