Crimson Drops Home Opener

The Harvard women’s basketball team dropped its home opener, 82-74, to Quinnipiac on Wednesday at Lavietes Pavilion. The loss is the third in a row for the Crimson to begin the season.

Foul trouble and turnovers plagued Harvard throughout the contest. After leading by as much as 11 points in the first half, the Crimson allowed the Bobcats to slowly chip away at the lead until it clung to a meager 38-36 advantage going into halftime. The second half, as in previous games this season, saw Harvard continue on its downward slope. More turnovers and poor shooting allowed the opposition too many easy points, and the excessive foul trouble provided too many trips to the charity stripe—Quinnipiac went 22-of-29 at the line compared to 6-of-9 for the Crimson.

Sophomore guard Emily Tay led Harvard in scoring, dropping 23 points and also dishing out a game-high eight assists. Tay, however, also committed eight of the squad’s 24 turnovers.
