SPORTS BRIEF: Crimson begins season at East Stroudsburg Open.

Seven Harvard wrestlers, in their first scheduled match of the season, successfully placed at the East Stroudsburg Open on Saturday morning at Koehler Fieldhouse, Penn.

Among the highlights for the Crimson was sophomore Louis Caputo, who finished No. 2 at 184 pounds.

Senior Bode Ogunwole, Harvard’s heavyweight wrestler, defaulted out of the tournament after two matches to prepare for the NWCA (National Wrestling Coaches Association) All-Star Match tomorrow.

“Bode just wanted to get some warm-up matches before that, so after he finished the first two matches he dropped out of the tournament to make sure he didn’t get hurt,” said junior Robbie Preston, who placed No. 1 at 141 pounds.

Freshman J. P. O’Connor (149 pounds) took No. 4 in his first collegiate tournament.

“It definitely looks like we’re in much better shape right now than we were going in last year,” Ogunwole said. “O’Connor had one pretty tough match, a long match, but he concentrated and got the victory.”

Also in the tournament, junior Bobby Latessa (157 pounds) took No. 4, edging junior Matt Button for the third-place match. Freshman Frankie Colletta (165 pounds) won his first three matches and placed No. 5.

The next scheduled match for Harvard will come on Dec. 1-2 at the Cliff Keen Las Vegas Invitational.
