While both men’s and women’s track and field teams sent only a few runners to the regional championships this weekend, at least those who went did not have far to travel.
The Crimson men competed at the IC4As in the Reggie Lewis Center at Boston Universiy, while the women raced in the ECAC championships on the same track.
After a disappointing showing at Heptagonals last weekend, neither team had many athletes qualify for this weekend’s meets.
Both squads had only a single scorer this weekend, with the men grabbing one point and the women notching 10 over the course of the two days.
The men’s lone point came from an eighth-place finish in the triple jump, which has been a successful event for the team all season long.
Junior Lawrence Adjah leapt 14.31 meters to grab the point. Senior Travis Hughes also competed in the event, and he came in 14th with a jump of 14.07 meters.
In the events on the track, freshman Jon Wofsy finished ninth in the 500-meter dash in qualifying with a time of 1:04.19, but he was not able to run in the final.
He was second overall amongst freshman runners in the event.
Meanwhile, select members of the women’s team raced in the ECAC championships.
Freshman Linsdey Scherf—who has had a strong indoor season—won the 5,000-meter race with a time of 16:12.14, good enough for an automatic qualification for the NCAA Championships.
Her time was also 18 seconds faster than the second-place runner, Andrea Walkonen of BU.
The NCAAs are slated to take place next weekend—March 11-12—in Fayetteville, Ark.
