Yale Tailgates To End Before Third Quarter

New restrictions at the Harvard-Yale Game in New Haven this year will require tailgates to end by the beginning of the third quarter and will prohibit drinking games or associated paraphernalia like beer funnels or ice luges, Yale College announced this afternoon.

Unlike last year in Cambridge, student group tailgates this year will be split across several different fields, with all House and residential college tailgates occupying a lot several blocks away from a food tent.

Yale will allow kegs and U-Hauls for the events, but Houses or Residential Colleges may only bring one U-Haul each.

Last year, in response to widespread concern over underage drinking, the Harvard Office of Student Activities implemented a number of restrictions centralizing all undergraduate tailgating and banning U-Hauls entirely. The College has also banned kegs at Harvard-Yale since 2002.

Yale Associate Dean for Student Affairs Betty Trachtenberg said that this year’s restrictions will not be revised.

“This is our first and final version,” Trachtenberg said.
