INTERCOLLEGIATE NET TOURNEY BEGINS JUNE 28

The forty-first annual tournament for the Intercollegiate Lawn Tennis Championship of the United States will begin on June 28, on the grass courts of the Merion Cricket Club, Haverlord, Pa. The tournament will be conducted by the Intercollegiate Lawn Tennis Association and the Merion Cricket Club, under the auspices of the United States Lawn Tennis Association.

Last season, 29, colleges were represented by 70 entrants in the singles championships, while 29 teams competed in the doubles matches. E. G. Chandler of the University of California, won the singles, and Gervais Hillis and Gerald Stratford, also of the University of California, took the doubles victory.

Four Singles Players Allowed

Participation in the tournament is limited to members of the Intercollegiate Lawn Tennis Association. Each member may enter a team of not more than four singles players and two doubles teams.

Accommodations will be provided for contestants at the 'Merion Cricket Club during the tournament.

The men who will represent the University have not yet been announced, but the strength of the team this season ensures a determined bid for victory in the Intercollegiates. The breaking-up of the Perkins-Pratt doubles combination through Perkins' absence will be appreciably felt, but Pratt will probably thus be released for singles service.

The scoring will be as follows: One point for the University or College whose representative wins the singles, one joint likewise for the doubles, and one-half point for the runner-up in the singles. Prizes will be awarded to the winners, and the winning college will be awarded a "win" on the International Trophy.

Eligibility Lasts Three Years

Following are the rules on eligibility:

1. A man is eligible to compete in the Intercollegiate Tennis Tournament as a representative of a college or university who his attended that college or university for more than one year.

2. A man is eligible to represent a college or university at the Intercollegiate Tennis Tournament if he has been eligible during the playing season and provided he has attended that college or university during the playing season.

3. A man is eligible to represent an institution at the Intercollegiate Tennis Tournament if he attends an institution which is considered an undergraduate institution by the Executive Committee of the National Intercollegiate Association.

4. A player is only eligible as an undergraduate, except that he may play in the Intercollegiate Tournament the summer after graduation. A graduate of one college cannot represent another, even though he becomes an undergraduate at another college.

5. Players, are eligible for three years only.
