The Harvard men’s volleyball team split a pair of ECAC matches this weekend, falling to Sacred Heart on Saturday before rebounding to beat the New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT) on Sunday.
The Pioneers (9-3, 4-1 EIVA) snapped the Crimson’s four-match winning streak with a 3-1 (30-21, 28-30, 30-23, 31-29) win at the Pitt Center in Fairfield, Conn. Outside hitters Doug Soviero and Michael Burns paced Sacred Heart, with 26 and 24 kills respectively.
Harvard’s attack was led by junior outside hitter Will Reppun who posted 17 kills and sophomore opposite Seamus McKiernan who added 14. Freshman setter Dave Fitz chipped in 42 assists, while junior libero Juan Ramos led the team with 10 digs.
On Saturday, the Crimson handled NJIT easily, 3-1 (30-23, 30-20, 27-30, 30-24), winning three games by more than five points.
Three players—Reppun, McKiernan and sophomore outside hitter Abe Marouf—posted double-digit kills for Harvard, with Reppun leading the way with 18 on a superb .484 hitting percentage. Reppun also led the team in digs with 10.
Sophomore middle hitter John Freese had seven blocks and Fitz posted 51 assists in the win.
Harvard next travels to play New Haven on Tuesday night.
