Hat trick helps freshman Merritt to Ivy League Rookie of the Week honors

By The Crimson Staff

Freshman Megan Merritt was named Ivy Rookie of the Week following a hat trick last Wednesday in the Harvard women’s soccer team’s 5-1 win over Holy Cross.

Merrit’s first goal of the game—the first of her college career—occurred barely two minutes into the game when the nearly six-foot midfielder headed the ball into the net following a corner kick.

The hat trick was the Crimson’s first of the season, contributing to Harvard’s top offensive output of five goals against the Crusaders.
