SPORTS BRIEF: Moran Named Ivy Player of Week For Two-Goal Effort

Junior Alisha Moran of the Harvard women’s soccer team has been named the season’s first Ivy League Player of the Week after scoring two goals in the Crimson’s 3-1 victory over Vermont last Sunday.

Moran entered the game immediately after Harvard tied the score at one, and it didn’t take her long to break the deadlock.

Only seven minutes after stepping onto the pitch, Moran deposited her own rebound in the back of the net after a defender had just managed to clear Moran’s first attempt off the line with a desperate slide.

“It was a good effort on the second, but a poor shot to begin with,” Moran said of the eventual game-winner.

After the Catamounts pulled ahead with a goal just four minutes into the game, the Crimson evened the score line in the 22nd minute on junior forward Emily Colvin’s first career goal.

Colvin took a pass from senior midfielder Katie Westfall behind the Catamount defense and slipped her shot under the Vermont goalkeeper for the equalizer.

Midway through the second half, Moran tacked on an insurance tally, pulling past her defender with a sudden burst and heading in a cross from senior striker Alisa Sato, whom she had replaced in the first half.

In all, Moran took four shots during the game, placing three of them on goal.

Before the contest, Moran had decided to focus specifically on her finishing during the game.

Moran’s two goals equalled her total from all of last season.
