SIDEBAR: Schuyler Mann '05

When the comic book-sounding “Sky Mann” was announced at the Beanpot tournament last year, it was oddly appropriate. The man at the plate was in the midst of a downright heroic freshman season.

With Lentz out of the picture, Mann emerged from a potential platoon situation to hit .281 with 25 RBIs. More than that, he was a surprisingly poised, polished presence at catcher. This year, he’s picked up right where he left off. Through 19 games this year, most in a challenging non-conference schedule, Mann’s batting .347—third on the team—at catcher and DH.

“He’s got all the talent in the world,” says Lentz, now the other half of the prolific catching tandem.

At home games, Mann trots to the plate to Jean Knight’s “Mr. Big Stuff.” One year and about 20 games into his Harvard career, he’s still showing why.
