Any Harvard student would agree that there’s something special about their school’s colors; sure, other schools may have red and white, but Harvard’s crimson stands out in a crowd. Apparently, New Mexico State University (NMSU) agrees.
As the Winter Edition of the Aggie Panorama alumni magazine reports, old alumni records listed the school’s sports color as “Harvard crimson.” The official red of the university logo, however, according to Director of Communications Karl A. Hill, is a special blend unique to the school called “Aggie red.” Clothing manufacturers hadn’t produced the color exactly, and throughout the years sportswear for NMSU had ranged through various shades of red, necessitating a call to the alumni for input as to what color was preferred for school clothing. “Harvard crimson,” was a convenient way for alumni back in the day to refer to the type of red they preferred for sports clothing.
References to “Yale Blue,” on the other hand, were conspicuously lacking.
