While the makeshift window-screen-and-desk-chair Beirut table that you constructed in your common room freshman year might still hold a special place in your heart, it’s time to grow up and see what a real ’rut table looks like. The following is a short selection of the best Beirut tables on campus. Combining artistry and alcoholism, each table was built with tender loving care and serves as a testament to the craftsmanship, ingenuity and beer-guzzling capacity of the Harvard community. If you ever find yourself in the same room as one of these masterpieces, consider yourself blessed by the Beer Gods.

Owner: Cosmo J. Santullo ’06 and blockmates

Theme: Foaming Harvard Beer Mug

Location: Winthrop House

Games played: 100

Times used per week: One

House rules: “A bouncing-off-the-wall rule definitely comes into play,” Santullo says.

Best table on campus? “Harvard pride! Plus, it can be set up and disassembled in under two minutes,” says Santullo.

If Bob Vila were the father of the industrious craftsmen responsible for this table, he would be a very proud man. It took two full days to perfect the stencils for the beer mug centerpiece and align the white silhouettes used to ensure perfect cup placement. The table is also equipped with five detachable legs that ensure easy set-up, and it occupies a prominent spot above the fireplace when not in use.
