Harvard Postpones Weekend Sporting Events

By Rahul Rohatgi, Crimson Staff Writer

Harvard has decided to follow the lead of most professional and collegiate sports and cancel all of its intercollegiate athletic contests through this weekend in the wake of Tuesday’s attacks in New York and Washington.

Director of Athletics Robert L. Scalise made the decision yesterday afternoon. The move affects 10 sporting events, including home games for men’s soccer and field hockey. Football’s season opener at Holy Cross was also cancelled.

“We thought long and hard about this issue and have tried as hard as we could to return to normal operations,” Scalise said, “but at this point we find it appropriate to cancel our athletic contests for the coming weekend.”

Scalise also said that he would try to reschedule as many games as possible. All sports since Tuesday had previously been postponed. The next scheduled Harvard athletic event is field hockey’s game at Connecticut next Wednesday.
