Harper Named Third-Team All American

Senior attacker Alli Harper was recently named a Third-Team All American by the Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Cooaches Association (IWLCA). Harper, the team’s co-captain, became the first Crimson player to earn an All-American distinction since Carrie Shumway ’96 was selected to the First Team in her senior year.

Harper had already been named a first-teamer on the All-Ivy and All-Region squads.

“I think her accolades speak for themselves,” said Harvard Coach Carole Kleinfelder. “It’s definitely deserved.”

Harper had an outstanding year for a team that stunned top 10-ranked B.C. early in its schedule but struggled against conference opponents. Harper registered a career-high 51 points in the 2001 season, and led the Crimson in points, assists and ground balls.

“Those are three big categories, and she will be sorely missed,” Kleinfelder said.

Harper also led the team in scoring last year as a junior co-captain.

“Where we’ll really miss her most is as a captain,” Kleinfelder said. “She was the hardest worker in practice, and she radiated a self-assuredness that her teammates gravitated to.”

The Crimson went 6-9 in the 2001 season, with a 1-6 Ivy League record.
