'Nterview with 'NSYNC

Recently, The Crimson participated in a conference call with Lance Bass and Joey Fatone to talk about their new movie, On the Line.

Q: On the Line is being built up as the N’Sync movie. How do you feel about that?

Joey Fatone: Nope! It’s not an N’Sync movie. It’s a Lance Bass-Joey Fatone movie.

Q: Lance, how do you identify with your character Kevin in On the Line?

Lance Bass: In a way, I’m like Kevin—a kind of hopeless romantic. But I think that’s where it ends. I’d say we differ in the lengths that we would go to find a girl again. If I lost someone it’s “oh well, that’s it.”

Q: What was the transition from stage to screen like?

JF: It’s pretty interesting. As far as being on stage, you’re always touring around a lot. When you’re making movies, every tiny slight move you make gets picked up on-screen. So when you’re on-stage, you’re doing a lot bigger, dramatic motions.

Q: Lance, do you ever think your acting career could become such that your music career will take a back seat to it?

LB: Oh no, never.

JF: Yeah, he’s pretty bad at acting.

LB: Shut up! I consider myself an entertainer—music, acting, everything. But definitely my foremost love is music, and it will definitely never be in the back seat. It might seem like that now, but I’m always thinking about N’Sync and what we’re going to be doing next. But I’ll still do other projects in the film industry.

Q: Do you guys worry that your acting career might not blossom to, say, the level of Donny Wahlberg from New Kids on the Block?

JF: Well, that’s all up to everybody else basically. I think people tend to get high hopes with a first movie. I think people need to give us the benefit of the doubt. When Mark and Donny Wahlberg started, it was like “What is he doing?” But more and more as they developed their acting techniques, they got better.

LB: Yeah, we’re new at this. We’re by no means saying that we’re the best actors in the world. But we’re very proud of this movie we just did. This is kind of like the make-it-or-break-it part of our career in acting.

Q: Will any other members of N’Sync make the jump to the big screen?

LB: I hope so; we’ve all talked about it. I know Justin got cast for Rent: The Movie, but that got put on hold. That was gonna be huge. As for J.C. and Chris—they don’t have anything yet. Hopefully, that movie will come along that we can all do together, but until then…
