M. and W. Track Performs Well at IC4A and ECAC

In the cold, wet weather over the weekend, the giants of men's and women's track soared, ran, and threw their way to impressive finishes in the IC4A and ECAC meets held at Princeton.

"Everyone performed well despite the bad weather," junior Chris Clever said. "It was a great finish to a good season and everyone was happy."

The Crimson had reason to be happy, with both the men and women garnering individual accolades in IC4A and ECAC competition, respectively.

On the men's side, senior Dave Martin ran to a second place finish in the steeplechase. This season, Martin has been a powerful force in distance running for the Crimson, placing well in the steeplechase and the 5000.

Other Crimson men with strong showings this weekend were Clever placing third in the javelin, junior John Kraay placing seventh in the shot put, and junior Arthur Fergusson leaping his way to eighth in the long jump.

Captain Darren Dinneen did not compete this weekend.

The Crimson women, not to be outdone by the men, also turned in phenomenal performances at the ECAC meet.

Junior co-captain Brenda Taylor continued her season-long dominance in the 400-hurdles with a first place finish.

Taylor, who earlier in the season became the first Crimson woman to crack the 12-second barrier in the 100-meters, has been an imposing force for Harvard in the short distances.

Equally dominant in her respective event, junior Dora Gyorffy blew away the competition with a first place finish in the high jump. Gyorffy was named Most Outstanding Athlete at Heps last week and currently shares the NCAA Indoor record for the high jump.

Other Crimson women who placed this weekend include junior Marna Schutte with a fourth place finish in the 400-meters and sophomore Carrie McGraw with a sixth place finish in the 400-hurdles.

Up next for the Crimson is the NCAA meet in two weeks. Harvard will find out tomorrow who will be participating, although most expect at least Gyorffy and Taylor to represent the women and Clever and Dinneen to represent the men.
