The few awkward moments while walking into Lamont Library have always been a bittersweet emotional ballet, full of both anticipation and dread. The clumsy balancing of bookbag and laptop case, the fumbling for ID and the uncomfortable eye contact with the book checker are rites of passage, destined to be replayed throughout the ages. In recent times, however, those already "broken in" may have found a new social obstacle: the umbrella bag.

Looming just near the e-mail kiosks at Lamont, the rack of umbrella bags is a veritable Pandora's Box of faux pas. The only thing scarier than trying to put on an umbrella bag without ruining the mood is the prodigious rate at which Lamont patrons have been using the bags.
