Long, Prasse-Freeman Win Ivy Weekly Honors

Captain Damian Long and freshman Elliott Prasse-Freeman, two of the four players from Washington state on the Harvard men's basketball team, headlined the Ivy League honor roll in the final full weekend of the regular season.

Long was named Ivy Player of the Week in a press release yesterday, while Prasse-Freeman earned Rookie of the Week honors.

The two guards helped Harvard (12-15, 7-7 Ivy) sweep its final road trip of the regular season. The Crimson beat Columbia on Friday, 61-59, then beat Cornell on Saturday, 74-60.

Harvard finished the season tied for third place in the conference with Columbia behind perennial powerhouses Penn, the Ivy champion, and Princeton.

Harvard joins Penn and Princeton as the only teams to finish in the top half of the Ivy standings in each of the last five seasons.

Long set a school record against Columbia by draining a three-pointer in his 24th straight game. He had 18 points against the Lions, then set a personal record against the Big Red with 29 points--including five three-pointers--in the final game of his career.

Long led the league with 72 three-pointers this season. That leaves him one trey short of the single-season school record of 73, which is held by Keith Webster '87.

Prasse-Freeman also turned in two solid performances to close out his rookie campaign. He had 12 points, eight assists, and three steals in Manhattan, then followed with nine points, 10 assists, six steals, and a team-high six rebounds in Ithaca.

The point guard led the Ivy by averaging 7.3 assists per game, which makes him tied for 10th in the nation in assists. He is the second player in school history to record 100 rebounds and 100 assists in the same season.
