Ski Team Travels to Dartmouth for Winter Carnival

HANOVER, N.H.--Away from the dingy fraternity basements and the mammoth "keg jump" in the middle of the green, the Harvard Ski Team raced against the best competition in the northeast this weekend at Dartmouth's Winter Carnival.

At this year's carnival, traditionally a bacchanalian feast held each year over a long winter weekend, the Crimson finished 11th out of the 12 teams that traveled to the Dartmouth Ski-Way for the fourth tournament in the Eastern Intercollegiate Ski Association's season.

The University of Vermont placed first with 687.0 points, Middlebury placed second with 640.0 points and host Dartmouth placed third with 620.0 points.

Harvard garnered 88.0 points.

The Crimson was led by strong performances in Friday's cross-country portion of the carnival. Sophomore Julia Silvis placed 53rd in the women's 10K with a time of 35:31.2, and senior Stan Jurga placed 54th in the men's 15K with a time of 53:21.4.

Sophomore Catherine Chen led all Harvard skiers in the women's slalom with a time of 2:22.23, placing her 65th among all skiers.

Freshman Ryan Myers placed 56th in the men's slalom with a time of 2:00.81.

Harvard travels to Jiminy Peak and the Williams Carnival this weekend for more EISA action.
