PROF BREAK PLANS

By F.g. Tilney

Law Professor Alan M. Dershowitz

I will be working on my book about the biblical sources of justice and celebrating Passover with a large Seder.

Dean Archie C. Epps III

Keeping in mind this is a Puritan institution, I am doing nothing but work.

Reverend Peter J. Gomes

As a minister, it's holy week--the most important week of the year. I have services on Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Easter Sunday. I have no more of a spring break than Monday and half of Tuesday. I am going to pretend it isn't holiday and then I won't feel deprived!

"Bible" Professor James L. Kugel

I'm planning on going to Israel and just hanging out.

Government Professor Harvey C. Mansfield' 53

How flattering! You guessed I would hasten to answer. My wife and I are going to Portugal for the break, where I am giving some lectures to wise up the Portuguese about Machiavelli.

"Heroes" Professor Gregory Nagy

I'm going to be at the University of Washington in Seattle doing a lecture series, and it just so happens that my 19 year-old daughter, who is doing City Year, will be there too. Now you see, I plant my lectures around Harvard vacations. Isn't that clever?

IOP Director Alan K. Simpson

At least I won't be grading papers. I am going to Cody, Wyoming for two days because I am the chairman of the Buffalo Bill Historical Center--you know it's the Athens of the west. Then I am coming back and having Easter and Good Friday at Memorial Church under the auspices of Peter J. Gomes. Reverend Gomes has gotten me hooked. He said "show up." And then he said, "feel guilty." Then I have to go see [Bill] Clinton. You might know who he is. We are all going to Washington to have Clinton's pork dinner. It's a recipe that has been around for five generations that he is going to inflict on us. And I'll be there and Clinton will cook it--this pork dinner and its mysterious recipe. and that's it.

VES Professor John R. Stilgoe '77

I had the boatyard put an engine in my sailboat and I am going to spend the vacation embroidering the engine compartment with teak and mahogany. I am just going to work on that boat and play with the engine.

"English 10b" Professor Helen Vendler

There is a limit on how silly one can be with The Crimson. As a professor, I would rather just keep my role as professor and not answer that question.
