Football Hires New Offensive Coordinator

By Daniel G. Habib

Get ready for another fresh face on the Harvard sideline.

The Harvard football team Tuesday hired Bob Stitt, formerly an assistant at Division-III Austin College, as its new offensive coordinator and offensive line coach.

Stitt replaces Joe Philbin, who left Harvard after two seasons for a job as offensive line coach at Iowa.

Stitt is the second coordinator hired in as many years. Bruce Tall was named defensive coordinator last spring. Tall replaced Mark Harriman, who departed to become head coach at Bates.

The Crimson, which finished 4-6 (3-4 Ivy) was ranked eighth in the Ivy League in scoring offense, averaging just 13.6 points per game, and seventh in total offense, generating 286 yards per game.

Stitt was assistant head coach and offensive coordinator at Austin, which ranked 14th in Division-III in passing offense and 25th in passing efficiency and total offense. The Kangaroos averaged 282 yards passing and 431 total yards per game.
