The Harvard chapter of the Delta Gamma sorority is in the market for a house.
According to Noelle S. Sherber '01, president of the Zeta Phi chapter of Delta Gamma, the sorority is looking at a couple of housing options, including a house at 56 Winthrop Street near the House of Blues.
"We're looking around," Sherber said. "Right now we're in the preliminary stages of buying a house."
Sherber said the sorority was looking at housing for many reasons.
"A lot of the male fraternities at Harvard have housing," she said. "A house would be easier for our organization for social gatherings, meetings, etc."
"It's important for females on campus to have a place to gather," Sherber added.
Sherber said she did not know when any binding decisions about the purchase of a house would be made.
Founded in 1873 in Oxford, Mississippi, Delta Gamma is one of the oldest sororities in the country.
According to its charter, Delta Gamma "offers to women of all ages a rich heritage, a continuity based on sound and tested principles of personal integrity, personal responsibility and intellectual honesty."
