Online Marketplace
Looking for a place to sell your old textbooks, or find someone who is selling theirs? Now, through a project of the Undergraduate Council and the Harvard Computer Society, you can do both, online. The Online Marketplace offers a way to advertise everything from books to futons for sale to members of the Harvard community. Items in the database can easily be searched by those interested in buying, and the only thing left to do is arrange the sale. You can find the UC/HCS Online Marketplace at http://www.hcs.harvard.edu/market-cgi/main.cgi, or from the link on the Undergraduate Council's homepage at http://www.hcs.harvard.edu/~hruc.
Grant Pick-up
Representatives for student groups that have received fall or year-long grants have until the end of reading period to turn in the receipts for their expenses. If you do not have the details of your grant award, please email UC Treasurer John Burton at jaburton@fas to find out the status of your grant.
Dining Service Improvements
Beginning next year, upperclassmen will have the option of getting a bag lunch in the Yard. The plan, which originated with the Undergraduate Council's request for more flexibility in the meal plan, was formulated by Director of Dining Services Ted Mayer in meetings with the UC's Dining Services Task Force.
Under the new plan, upperclassmen who are unable to return to their houses during the day for lunch will be able to select a sandwich, drink, fruit, cookies and chips from the Grab and Go station in the Yard, which will most likely be found in Loker Commons. The Task Force hopes that this plan will alleviate one of the most common complaints among upperclassmen, especially those living in the Quad: that they pay for the 21 meal plan, but are never able to get lunch without paying extra.
In other Dining Services developments, the Task Force, with the help of Rachel Barber of Adams House, recently discussed Passover meals at Hillel with Mayer and Executive Chef Mike Miller. This meeting focused on getting more variety and more hot food for the students who eat at Hillel during the holiday. --Noah Seton, Co-Chair, Dining Services Taskforce

Researching Cable Television
An issue long-ago abandoned by the UC as not worth its time, it seems that some progress may now be made as a result of the UC's increased lobbying this semester. Dean Lewis has expressed tacit support for cable television at least in the common areas of the houses and Yard (i.e. Grills, JCRs, etc.), and the University is currently in discussion about the possibility of bringing this cable to Harvard students. The long-term goal remains cable television in every suite at Harvard, but the common areas constitute an important first step. Look for UC reps in your dining hall this week conducting polls with regard to cable television for suites. We hope to demonstrate to the University that there is significant demand for cable television among the students.
