To the editors:

In Tuesday's article on premedical requirements (Science & Technology, March 17), I was misquoted as stating that I counsel students against taking premedical requirements in the summer. In fact, I counsel students not to take all of their premedical courses in the summer. I do, however, advise students that it is fine to take one premedical course requirement in the summer.

Many premedical students who are not science majors find that taking a premedical course during the summer, either at Harvard or another college, allows them greater flexibility in planning their academic year. Students do not need to receive Harvard credit for their summer school course in order to fulfill the medical school requirements.
